Thailand-based Afro Asia Management has done the unthinkable again! This time, they are bringing the UK-based group Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) and its legendary frontman Phil Bates to South Africa in February 2014.
This is an incredibly rare opportunity for true fans of classic rock to hear one of the greatest bands of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s live.
February 13 and February 14 (Special Valentine’s Day) are the dates booked for Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, while Saturday 15 February will be the Cape Town rendez-vous at the Liqui-fruit Amphitheatre in Paarl.
Oldies are always goodies, as they say, and fans of ELO are expected to revel the 40 years of various hits during these three special evenings.
ELO, whose songs were played on the radio millions of times and became classics in pop history, is one of the most successful bands of all times. Bates has also been hailed by Classic Rock Magazine as among the UK’s best vocalists and guitarists.
He and Electric Light Orchestra Classics are expected to perform a set of hits that includes massive Don’t Bring Me Down, All Over The World, Shine A Little Love, Turn To Stone, Evil Woman, and many more.
The band forged a bridge between classical and rock music, between electronic and orchestral music, between traditional and modern trends.
The shows will also feature the popular South African electro string group, the Muses.
Tickets are from R240 (about US$25) and can be booked at Computicket.
