(Source: MDDA). South Africa’s community broadcasters, local and community newspapers have until 31 January 2013 to submit their entries for the 2012 MDDA-Sanlam Local Media Awards, which will take place on Friday 24 May 2013 in Johannesburg.
The venue of the event will be announced later this month. The entries must be submitted at a nearest Sanlam office across South Africa. Only content published or broadcast between 1 January and 31 December 2012 will be accepted.
The MDDA-Sanlam Local Media Awards 2012 also includes the Rantho/Letsebe Community Media Achievement Award. This Award is dedicated to community media activists, heroes and heroines who passed away, and is given in the name of the late Tshepo Rantho and the late Harry Letsebe.
The awards, which celebrate and promote excellence of South Africa’s developing grassroots and local media talent, have been growing from strength to strength, MDDA CEO Lumko Mtimde said. Sanlam’s head of group communications, Ainsley Moos, said: “Sanlam supports local media because we believe local media play an important role in keeping communities informed.
“We believe that informed communities are better equipped to make important decisions about their lives. We hope that our support for the Awards promote excellence in writing and broadcasting and contribute to relevant, credible and quality information.”
Entry forms are available on www.mdda.org.za.
