Crowds who will get to the the inaugural Craighall Primary School Choir Festival on 11 September 2013 in Johannesburg will be enchanted and entertained by South African legenday jazz singer Abigail Kubeka, the organisers said this week.
Kubeka, a friend and colleague of the late music hero Miriam Makeba, has been chosen as a special guest performer, and she is also expected to perform together with the Craighall School Choir.
The festival will feature a line-up of top primary school choirs from Craighall, Montrose, Bordeaux Primary School, IR Griffith and Bryneven. Their performances will take place under the theme Celebrate Life, the organisers added.
Kubeka has more than 50 years experience as a singer, songwriter, musical arranger and actress – skills she is willing to pass on to a new generation of young creative talents.
“I’m delighted to be able to work with such enthusiastic young singers, the evergreen Kubeka said.
“Craighall Primary has a special place in my heart with one of my grandchildren attending the school.”
Craighall Primary School principal Andrea Prout-Jones said: “We are honoured to have someone of Abigail Kubeka’s calibre to contribute to both our choir and the upcoming festival.”
