Nigeria’s former information and communications minister, 59-year-old Prof Dora Akunyili, passed away on Saturday in an Indian hospital, where he was hospitalised with cancer, according to local media reports.
She has been battling with the disease for the past two years.
Educated in Nigeria and UK, Prof Akunyili served as a minister between December 2008 and December 2010.
She was also a former director general of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), where she raged a fierce war against counterfeit drugs in Nigeria.
She also taught pharmacology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where she was a former student.
