Nigeria's Dangote Group among Africa’s top 10 most valuable brands in 2013

Nigeria’s Dangote Group among Africa’s top 10 most valuable brands in 2013

Dangote Group, one of Africa’s fast growing and influential businesses owned by the continent’s  richest man, Nigerian Alhajji Aliko Dangote, has  emerged among Africa’s top 10 most valuable brands in 2013, according to a survey conducted by Africa Business Magazine.

Dangote, born in Kano (northern Nigeria) 57 years ago, has a fortune estimated at US$20 billion.

The survey recognised Dangote Group as the most valuable brand in the consumer goods sector with an African brand value of 216, and overall eighth most valuable brand when placed against brands from other sectors.

Dangote’s emergence did not come as a surprise to industry watchers, a statement issued by Africa Business Magazine said.

The brand has steadily increased its influence in many African nations through establishment of cement factories, operating in about 13 African nations and making one of the most visible, recognised and admired brands.

“What is perhaps a little more surprising is that Dangote, the largest manufacturing conglomerate in West Africa, and Globacom, the Nigeria-based telecommunication provider, are also in the lists,” the magazine said.

“Both brands have managed to win the hearts of the communities in which they operate.”

Dangote Group was named African Business of the Year in 2011 by African, and its president and chief executive Dangote also clinched the African Business Leader of the Year award. The awards are organised by Africa Business Magazine in association with the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) and BusinesssinAfrica Events.

The African Business magazine survey tagged ‘The Brand Africa 100 table’ and established in 2011 further recognises African brands that were beginning to challenge or lead global brands in Africa and across various industries.

The survey also seeks to identify, acknowledge and promote African and global brands that are catalysts for Africa’s growth, reputation and value.
