She has done it again! The new kid on the block, Niasony Okomo, has demystified the hidden mystery of Africa’s music, culture and entertainment, and against all odds she has won a prestigious award, the 2013 AYF Adler Award, in the media and entertainment category.
To say that 2013 was Okomo’s year after watching the video of her heart-stopping song, Nasina, might sound like an understatement. But the truth is that the Congo-Brazzaville star, based in Germany, excelled in that video, showed her true colours and in the process sent a stern warning out there that she is about to reach the summit.
Nia was honoured by the African Youth Foundation (AYF) for her ‘outstanding’ musical role as an ambassador for the African culture, as well as for her political commitment. The trophy was awarded to her recently at an extraordinary gala hosted by the AYF in Bonn, Germany
In 2012, she was nominated for the same awards in the ‘Social Activists’ category.
This award is the fruit of hard work, a delighted Okomo told Moon of the South. She also said her role of ambassador of African culture consists of going an extra-mile, if needs be, to ensure that African culture, especially the music of Central Africa, does not fall apart.
