Mexico welcomes you at its 2013 Adventure Travel trade fair

Seattle, Washington State. Over 400 inbound Mexican operators, outbound tour operators, international buyers and media are expected to attend the second annual Adventure Travel Mexico (ATMEX) trade fair on 14-18 August 2013 in the coastal state of Veracruz, the organisers said yesterday.

The adventure travel gathering is jointly organised by the State of Veracruz and Visit Mexico, in association with Seattle-based Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA). Last year’s edition as well as the Adventure Travel World Summit in 2011 that took place in the city of Chiapas was a brimming success, the organisers said, adding that this has created growing awareness in Mexico of the sustainable benefits of adventure travel.

Last year’s event resulted in more than 2 000 meetings, 578 exhibitors, and 180 international and national buyers gathering during the five-day event.
ATTA President Shannon Stowell said: “Visit Mexico understands the economic and social advantages of the adventure travel industry with their focus on building the infrastructure, education and brand awareness that supports adventure travel.

“Recent trends point toward more travelers wanting an experiential trip that delves deep into the nature and culture of a destination. Those looking ahead now – like Mexico – will be well served in the future.  Mexico has a mature tourism industry- now it is time to mature the adventure sector, which tends to support the larger rural areas that have been overlooked by traditional tourism.”

Veracruz is known for its relaxed atmosphere, culinary delights and its adventure activities that include, among others, river rafting, hiking, mountain climbing, parasailing and fishing, and cultural highlights such as El Tajin, one of Mexico’s finest archaeology parks.

ATTA currently serves nearly 900 members in 80 countries worldwide, including tour operators, tourism boards, specialty agents and accommodations with a vested interest in the sustainable development of adventure tourism.
