Argentine’s Tango Jazz Quartet off to Standard Bank Joy of Jazz

They came all the way from Buenos Aires, the bustling capital of Argentine in South America, to perform at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival in South Africa.

Who are they? They are the Tango Jazz Quartet, a group of legendary musicians who are bringing their exquisitely sensitive blend of the smooth, cheeky melodies and rhythms of tango, with the harmony and improvisation of jazz.

Their highly-publicised tour starts in Johannesburg on August 23, and moves to Cape Town on August 28.

The band takes its inspiration from the heady times of the 1940’s and 50’s where, during the course of a night, tango and jazz bands used to share the same stage and audiences could appreciate both genres.

The four-man band, Gustavo Firmenich on tenor sax and clarinet, Federico Hilal on bass, Gustavo Corrado on piano and Alejandro Beelmann on drums, are expected to collaborate with local musicians to create some sort of an Afro-Latin music flavour.

Be ready to be swept away by these talented Latinos.
