Nigeria and South Africa will not take part in the soccer African Cup of Nations scheduled to be hosted in Gabon from 14 January to 5 February 2016.
The continent’s two economic powerhouses have failed to qualify, and will have to go back to the drawing board to rethink their strategies and sharpen their skills for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. Soccer fans across Africa were treated to a feast of pulsating games this weekend, as the last five qualifying spots were up for grab.
All is well and ends well, as the saying goes. And after 15 months of playing here and there, the list of 16 national teams that will come to Gabon early next year is finally ready:
1 Gabon (host)
2 DR Congo
3 Ivory Coast (cup holders)
6 Guinea Bissau (first participation)
7 Uganda (first participation since 1974)
8 Burkina Faso
